Let’s fight together! Feminist campaign for self-determination and Democratic Autonomy

Let’s fight for gender freedom! We want a change in our society: in Germany and other countries, in Rojava and every autonomous region; all around the world. Therefore, from 25st of November 2017 on – the Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women* – we call for participating in the feminist campaign “Let’s fight together! For self-determination and Democratic Autonomy”.

Grassroots democracy, autonomy and self-determination…
…mean more than utopia to us: they are specific emancipatory approaches we
want to achieve in our societies. Capitalism and patriarchy manifest themselves in the competition, isolation and thriving for power which characterise our society. They are the reason for our sexist oppression, and we need to network, organize and fight in order to overcome them. The shift to the right which is now happening all around Europe is giving an additional impetus to traditional concepts of gender roles and family. Hard won rights such as
the possibility of having an abortion are at risk of being abolished. The reason lies in the conservative and (new) right forces present in both the many European parliaments and the public sphere. In a time where further gender identities besides the binary man and woman are denied, we are told we have never been that free. But the fake freedom of becoming „female managers“ is not our goal. Taking part in others’ oppression doesn’t mean liberation. We
want a truly free society where we can live in Democratic Autonomy. Democratic Autonomy means to us the possibility of discussing and taking decisions based on the principles of grassroots democracy. That will allow that beauty of diversity which we rarely see in our everyday lives to bloom. The only way to achieve this change and fight oppression (e.g. racism, capitalism) is to understand its relation to patriarchy.

Against patriarchal relations
The Kurdish women*’s movement plays a leading role in the Rojava-revolution in the north of Syria, where they created a self administrated model of society based on gender liberation, ecology and grass-roots democracy. The independent, feminist organisation enables every woman*, regardless of her origin or religion, to empower herself, live autonomously and oppose patriarchal relations.
The images of the Women*’s Protection Units are also present in Europe and give us strength and courage. They stand up for the revolution of the society, the revolution of women*. And there is so much to stand up for, like “Jinwar”: a village created as an act of self-empowerment and where only women* and their children are responsible for their lives, their schools, their health-clinics. Every donation we get will go directly to help funding this project.

Networking, educating, organising and fighting together
Our goal is to connect the experiences and analysis of the Kurdish women*’s
movement to the feminist struggles in Germany and Europe in order to walk towards social liberation and recognise which projects can be effectively implemented. Empowerment means to be able to provide ourselves with our own and shared knowledge on the historical and present conditions, to protect ourselves from physical and mental attacks and truly achive self-determination in our everyday lives. Let’s look for alternatives together, learn from each other and be there for each other. During the following weeks and months we want to discuss, go to the streets, fight and laugh together with you!
We are looking forward to meeting you all!
